In a 2009 interview, she described their relationship as similar to a married couple, stating that “they don’t need papers for that.” Upon their split, de la Rua continued to manage Shakira’s business and career interests. In the fall of 2012, he filed a $100 million lawsuit against Shakira, claiming owed money after she ended their business partnership in October 2011. The lawsuit was dismissed by a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge in August 2013.
Shakira started dating Spanish football player Gerard Piqué in 2011. Piqué, who plays for FC Barcelona and the Spanish national team, is ten years younger than Shakira.
