The Lovie Awards

Lovie Special Achievement Awards were presented by the Academy at The 3rd Annual Lovie Awards Winners’ Party on 13th November 2013 at St Luke’s Church in Old Street London.
The Lovie Awards was thrilled that Founder of Wikipedia Jimmy Wales honoured Vic Hayes, known to many inside and outside the tech community as the "Father of Wi-Fi," with a Lovie Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his contributions and guidance while chairman of the IEEE committee that created the 802.11 standard radio frequency for broadcasting a Wi-Fi signal.
His work helped to usher in the age of the ubiquitous Internet, providing users with Ethernet-free connections and a brand new sense of connected mobility. That freedom led to countless innovations in hardware and software that have set the standard for the modern Internet age. We are proud to honour Vic Hayes as this year’s Lovie Lifetime Achievement Award winner.
The Lovie Awards was thrilled to honour artist and photographer JR with the Artist of the Year Award for using the Internet as a tool to create participation, education and awareness of art as a means for global change.
The Inside Out project utilised the true intent of the Internet as a tool for communication and action to give people the ability to upload, print, post and share photos as part of a global installation. His use of Instagram and his jr-art.net website has shown a savvy understanding of the web as creative tool and communications network, one set up to educate and inspire.
The Lovie Awards honoured Candy Crush Saga with a Break out of the Year Award in recognition of the app’s enormous success amongst gamers and consumers worldwide. With an average of 46 million users each month and counting, the exponential growth of this game is unprecedented, breaking records in daily revenue.
This success, lead by creators King, signifies a deep understanding of the very DNA of the Web itself and a precise talent in bringing the mobile gaming experience to a new level for users everywhere.
