VOOPOO DRAG 4 Review

September 28, 2024

A new standard has been set.

The latest addition to VOOPOO’s renowned DRAG range has arrived! Unlike its predecessors, the E60 and H80S, this device resembles the DRAG 3 more closely. With dual 18650 batteries powering it, this mod can reach an impressive 177W! Accompanying it is a brand-new UFORCE tank designed for the legendary PnP coils. Its features enhance an already excellent menu system, but we’ll delve into that shortly. Now, let’s take a detailed look at the VOOPOO DRAG 4.

Appearance

First, let’s discuss the mod. This device showcases a polished and matte metalwork design that looks sleek. The battery cover dominates most of the kit’s appearance, available in two unique textures: a wood panel effect and a resin effect, each offered in various colors. Compared to the DRAG 2, this device boasts a more understated branding approach, featuring a simple company logo on the edge and an elegant metal DRAG logo on the side. Additionally, a small leatherette panel accents the edge of the kit that displays the VOOPOO logo, contributing to its stylish aesthetic.

When it comes to size, this device is slightly bigger than the DRAG 3, similar in dimensions to the VOOPOO ARGUS GT II.

The front side features a fire button, lock switch, and up & down buttons. Also present is the USB-C charging port, although we always recommend using an external charger for removable batteries.

The craftsmanship of this beautiful device is outstanding. It exudes high quality, and the thoughtful touches, such as the ‘spark your life’ stitched onto the battery ribbon and the ‘thank you for choosing DRAG’ message found inside, give it a personal touch.

Now, let’s move on to the tank. Just like the mod, it showcases a very high standard of build quality. It also shares the same metallic finish as the mod, which is a big plus for me since mismatched finishes are disappointing. With a quick quarter turn, the top can be lifted off to reveal the filling holes. A small yet impactful feature is the bars placed over the airflow holes. Although they might seem solely decorative, they effectively reduce noise during use.

VOOPOO DRAG 4 – Performance

Wow. This kit truly stands out. I have been evaluating all the VOOPOO kits released over the past few months, and it’s been quite a lot. It’s refreshing to witness VOOPOO’s commitment to enhancing their devices incrementally. Each new kit appears to include subtle changes that result in substantial improvements.

Given the numerous features this kit offers, I will categorize them for clarity.

Menu

This kit’s menu provides an extensive array of customization options. First up is the power mode, which presents several selections. Let’s break them down:

Smart With Smart mode, the kit reads your coil and automatically sets the minimum and maximum wattage based on the coil’s limits, preventing accidental burns.
RBA In RBA mode, you have a general power setting allowing you to adjust the wattage to your vaping preference. This is particularly useful if the device misreads your coils due to a different tank.
Eco Eco mode conserves battery life, providing options for a more efficient experience.Maximizing your battery performance is possible with this device. Although the exact mechanism is unclear, VOOPOO asserts that it contributes an additional 30% to battery longevity. We encountered this feature previously in the VOOPOO DRAG E60.
TC Temperature Control operates with specific TC coils, enabling you to specify the temperature for your coils instead of just wattage. Supported coil types include Ni, TI, and SS.

Introducing the ‘switch’ feature next. This setting allows you to modify the function of the lock switch located on the front of the device. You can choose between two settings: one that locks the entire device or another that only locks the fire buttons. This feature was previously seen in the VOOPOO ARGUS XT, though it was a dual switch rather than customizable.

You can also reset your puff counter and… change the screen colour! Since I first received my ARGUS GT II, I’ve been anticipating this feature on a VOOPOO device. While it doesn’t affect performance, I’m fond of altering my screen colour.

VOOPOO DRAG 4 – How Does it Vape?

This kit delivers an exceptional vaping experience. The PnP coils have established a reputation for being both popular and dependable, so it’s no surprise that the newly introduced PnP coils perform exceptionally well. They offer impressive cloud production coupled with outstanding flavour. The tank not only looks fantastic but also is highly user-friendly. Typically, VOOPOO kits feature TPP coils for direct lung vapes, making the choice of PnPs noteworthy. I utilize both, and while the cloud production isn’t as voluminous, I prioritize flavour over vapour output, and these coils undoubtedly excel in that area.

Never did I imagine I would review a device that could challenge my loyalty to the ARGUS line, yet here we are. VOOPOO may have inadvertently provided me with a consistent replacement for my GT II.

Ease of Use

This device boasts exceptional ease of use and includes a wide array of features that simplify the vaping experience. First, there’s the smart mode, which assists in adjusting your wattage. Additionally, there’s eco mode for extending battery life when necessary. The tank features a convenient quarter-turn top fill system and push-fit coils. Plus, the kit incorporates USB-C quick charge for easy recharging while out and about. The batteries are secured under a C-shaped magnetic cover instead of the conventional battery door located at the bottom.

Price

The VOOPOO DRAG 4 is priced at £59.99, slightly more than the GTII or XT models. Nonetheless, the impressive build quality and overall aesthetics of this kit justify the additional £5. This price point aligns with that of the SMOK MAG-18, but I found this device to outperform the latter significantly.

The UFORCE-L tank that accompanies this kit can be purchased separately for £22.99.

The new PnP-TW coils are available for £13.99 per five-pack. The previous generation of PnP coils costs £12.99 for five, and both coil types are compatible with this device.

Target Audience

This kit is designed for direct lung (DL) vapers. Thus, the included coils come in 0.15ohm and 0.2ohm configurations. As a DL kit, it performs exceptionally well, delivering impressive flavour. The only potential drawback arises for those who vape at high wattages, as the maximum available is the 0.15ohm coil rated at 70W.

However, if you are an RDL or MTL vaper, don’t overlook this kit! Additional 0.8ohm and 1.0ohm PnP coils can be purchased separately. As an MTL option, this mod would be highly effective, with dual 18650s yielding days of battery life.

VOOPOO DRAG 4 Final Verdict

This device is exceptional. Powered by two 18650 batteries, it can attain a maximum output of 177W. A multitude of features allows you to customize your vaping experience, making it a superb kit for nearly all vapers. VOOPOO has excelled once again.
